Frequently-anticipated questions:

What does this data set describe?

Title: foret_communale
Abstract:
According to the 1994 Forestry law, Cameroon's forest is divided into National and Permanent Forest Domains. This dataset displays the spatial boundaries for Council Forests, located within the Permanent Forest Domain. The original digital data were prepared on behalf of the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) by Tecsult Inc. (Québec, Canada) for Cameroon's Ministry for Forests and Wildlife within the framwork of Cameroon - Canadian Cooperation. Global Forest Watch collaborator(s) recently updated this dataset using official data and information from MINFOF, for use in the Interactive Forestry Atlas of Cameroon Version 2.0 (2006). The boundaries of FMU/UFA logging concessions have been updated according to official decrees available as of 2006.

  2. How were the data generated, processed, and modified?

    (process 1 of 3)
This dataset originates from topograpic maps of Cameroon drawn and published in Yaoundé, Cameroon by the National Cartogarphic Institute formerly the National Geographic Center. In 1970s, these maps were printed in Paris, France by I.G.N. The Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) within the framwork of Cameroon - Canadian Cooperation sponsored Tecsult Inc. (Québec, Canada) to digitize the boundaries of the different management units classified under the Permanent Forest Domain as described by thier degree of attribution using the topographic mapsheets as reference. This data was stored as ArcInfo coverages and published in the CD-rom titled "Gestion Durable des Forêts Global Forest Camerounaises". Global Forest Watch collaborator(s) recently up-dated this dataset using official MINFOF data for use in the Interactive Forestry Atlas of Cameroon Version 2.0.
